This, My Year

Normally each year I look back and think, “wow, this year sucked.” It’s become a sort of tradition for me. This year, I wanted it to be different. This year I wanted to mix things up and follow through with plans and ambitions where I would normally fall short. With the new promotion I got last year and the decent pay raise, I suddenly found myself in a position to make positive changes. Side note: who said money can’t buy happiness?

There were already a couple of good changes in the pipeline for this year. I had a solo trip to California for work, a trip to North Carolina for work, and our 15th year anniversary.

For our anniversary I decided to take David to New York City. He’s been there before, but only as a small child. I wanted to take him there so he could experience it as an adult.
Next week we’re leaving. We actually made it happen. It feels so good to be able to, not only afford these things, but to plan it and actually see it through. Every year on our anniversary we plan on doing something great. Every year it falls through and we just end up having a Staycation at home. Don’t get me wrong, we’re both lazy enough to love it, but it does grow old after a while. When you see all your friends going out and doing great things, eventually you find yourself wanting the same.
Not only New York, but we’re also planning a weekend getaway to the Keys later this year. We both have never been there and the thought of driving across the 7-mile bridge sounds too good to pass up.
It seems this year is breaking the mold for the sedimentary lifestyle we’ve been living. Not only out of affordability, but laziness. Now we’re wanting to venture out and experience things.
I really think this will be the first year that ends and leaves me thinking, “2018 is a year I **want** to remember.”
