World, Meet Ikora.

Today we adopted a cat. We've named her Ikora. Yes, if you're familiar with Destiny, she's named after the Warlock vanguard leader, Ikora Rey. Why Ikora? She's badass and Warlock Master Class!

Anywho, she's 1 year old exactly. We brought her home, and immediately she flew out of her carrier and started exploring the apartment. I've never seen a cat do that before. Normally they're slow to explore. This one? Nope, she was excited.

I think both David and I knew that we wanted a female cat. There was this adorable male cat named Mica at Petsmart, but I think as soon as we saw this female cat, curled up in a ball asleep, with the name Layla on the card, we knew this was our cat. Especially when we went behind the cages to handle her, she reached her paw out to both David and I and was tapping our shoulder for attention. There was no claws involved, just a "hey" tap.

I was a touch apprehensive when I saw the kennel card for employees that described her as a stray. In my experience strays do NOT easily domesticate. But here was this tiny skinny little cat begging for love and attention. The others looked nervous and scared, but this one was literally calling for us.

The song has changed since coming home though. We let her out in our room so she'd know her safe space. She's since adopted Angela's room, bed, and Kate Spade blanket as her space. I guess she's a strong independent woman who don't need no man, let alone a gay couple.

I'm sad that it seems she won't be our girl. She's chosen Angela. But I will say, I think Angela needs her. With the cancer being removed and living a solitary life, I'm sure the companionship will be just what the doctor ordered. She seems a bit weary about sacrificing her brand new throw to the cat, but she's not pushing the cat away.

So glasses up to a new child. Angel, Angel, Simba, Maxximus, Bruno, and now Ikora.
