The Scariest Weekend of My Life

I'm sure you can already tell from the picture above... David had to get checked into ER.

Mom has agreed to go swimming so we went to her house last weekend. David didn't swim, but Mom, Olivia, Archer and myself did. David sat out and watched us swim from the side.

We got home that night and David had a bump on his elbow. We have terrible diets, so getting random zits isn't a second thought for us normally. He popped the bump and went on his merry way. That week he complained that his elbow was getting swollen and was hurting. We didn't think much of it.

Fast-forward to Thursday: We're playing Fortnite with our friends and David sent a picture to the group chat of his elbow.
Granted, I just took a shower with him and had no clue that his elbow was swollen this badly. This was the first time I actually saw how big it had swollen too. At that moment I knew there was an issue, so we hopped off the game and I took him to the hospital.

We sat in the ER waiting room for 9 hours before he was finally taken to a room. They asked him if he had any allergies, to which we both responded with "no." Well, turns out he does have allergies. I was on my way back home to get some sleep and pick up some things when he sent me this video.
I'm not sure if I ever cried as hard as I did on that drive home. Just leaving him at the hospital, in that condition, not knowing what the fuck was happening was so fucking difficult and scary.

I always imagined the rolls would be reversed. I chain-smoke like a fucking chimney. I eat sodium heavy, fatty foods, all processed. I have no regard for my health, but here's my professional dancer in the hospital instead of me.

They kept him through the weekend and let him come back home on Sunday. They were worried about the location of the swelling, and if the infection had affected his joint. There was strong talk of surgery. They had an ortho come and check him out. They determined it wasn't affecting the joint, but they were worried about his incredibly low iron levels.

He now has more medication prescribed to him than a geriatric and he's got a couple of follow-up appointments planned in the near future.

His swelling is going down. It finally burst and started leaking while he was still in the hospital.
I'm just so happy to have him back home where he belongs and now I'm a little more aware of how much more we need to take care of ourselves. Especially him.

This was by far the scariest weekend of my life and I'm so happy it's fucking over.
