Owo, I'm a Furry

I love discovering new things about myself. Turns out I'm a furry.

So this journey of self-discovery began when we started hanging out with a friend who out of respect I shall not call him by name, but instead call him Wolfie. So Wolfie is a furry and when David and I started chatting with him in our group chat we quickly realized this. He doesn't claim the title, but a quick personal conversation with him will elude to this fact.

I've always liked pictures of anthropomorphic animals with attractive human qualities. Hell, I've been following yiff subreddits for long while now. So we would share pictures we'd find attractive in our group chat.

David and I were talking about Wolfie, both agreeing that he was indeed a furry. I decided to do some research on furries to try to figure out why he didn't want to adopt the title when it aptly described his interests. Of course when looking up furries you're going to come across fursuiters. At first I was thinking it was a bit cringy. I've always like fursuits and respect the incredible craftsmanship that goes into them, but thought the idea of wearing a mascot outfit for fun seemed silly.

However the more I researched the more I wanted to join this community of people, and that's when it clicked. Being a furry, even a fursuit, isn't just about wanting to be an animal. It's about being in a community. And if there was one thing that I discovered about furries it's that their community is amazing. They genuinely seem like they accept all, and breed positivity. I'm sure there are a few bad apples, hell even the gay community has fuckwads, but positivity, acceptance and love seem to also be threaded throughout this group of furry freaks. Freaks being a word I use lovingly as being "normal" is fucking lame.

David has been supportive and enthusiastic about all of the furry talk. Hell, he even agreed to make a fursona with me so we can have our fursonas in an artwork for our wall. Which is where this picture comes from.

This is Ebb, my fursona. David's is a red fox named Flow. So yeah, we're Ebb and Flow which ties in perfectly with our oceanic theme for our relationship. I still haven't quite figured out Ebb and am working on his story and personality, but I did commission an incredible artist, Furbave, off of Fiverr to bring Ebb to life.

The original artwork I commissioned for Ebb had him gray. Gray being my favorite color. However when I got the artwork from the artist I wasn't a fan of the art style and wasn't a fan of the pure gray coat. Even though gray is my favorite color, it's because of how well gray works with other colors. So I pulled out the iPad and recreated Ebb with colors appropriately. I've always been a fan of the blue/green combo and wanted to incorporate that into Ebbs design. Also, I had to do the double band tattoo on the forearm since that is a tattoo I want to get IRL.

It feels really awesome to discover new things about myself. Things I guess I should have known before. But just like figuring out my sexuality, the truth only comes to surface when I start to ask the right questions and I'd never thought to put questions into my anthro-interest.

I'll definitely be going to Megaplex in Orlando next year to try to dip my toes in the waters of the community. Hell, I may even want to get a fursuit created, an idea I've been rejecting throughout the questioning and research.

David isn't a furry but he did create a fursona so we could get our artwork done. This is his, Flow.
