MegaPlex: My FURst Furry Convention

So this weekend I got to experience my first furry convention, MegaPlex, in Orlando. So during this event I've learned a few very valuable lessons.

First lesson, make sure you book your hotel at the convention. I tried to book a villa at Caribe Royale, the hotel that was hosting the event, but unfortunately no villas were available. Instead of booking a regular room, because I wanted an oversized bathtub, I booked a villa at a different hotel not too far away.

This hotel was ghetto. Right off the bat I knew I fucked up when we were checking in and we were advised that during the duration of the stay that we would have to wear these yellow hospital-style brands on our wrists. I don't think I've ever stayed at a hotel where that was a thing and already while checking in I was regretting my decisions.

Then, the room itself was probably styled by Grandma Ethel in the 80's. I know we're on 192 in Kissimmee, so obviously I shouldn't have expected luxury, which I wasn't, but good god the room was gaudy and felt like a crime scene waiting to happen.

In all fairness our Villa was large. Very large. It was a three bedroom villa, and each room had its own bathroom. So it worked out perfectly for the four of us. David and I took the master room with the massive jacuzzi tub in the bedroom, and Ali and Dakota each had their own space. There was also a main kitchen and an additional front kitchen, but the front kitchen felt kinda like a sad employee break room than a hotel kitchen so everyone just used the main kitchen.

Saturday morning we got to the convention. First, of course, we had to make a "quick" stop at Starbucks on the way. This stop was for around 45 minutes and I deeply regretted not using the drive through to get through faster.

When we got to the convention we went inside and OH. My. GOD! Furries. Furries everywhere.

I saw a fursuiter dressed as Legoshi and I had to get a picture with him since Legoshi is kind of my other husband. Then there was this cool/creepy/cool fursuit of a cat. We b-lined for the Dealer's den. I ended up picking up some grey paws and an almost Ebb blue tail.

We wandered around most of the day looking in and out of the dealers den. We got to watch the fursuit parade. Which was amazing!

Above is a 360º video I took of the parade.

We eventually wandered into The Zoo which was a big room they had the VR screen in that people could pop into and say hello to the con-goers from VRChat.

Towards the evening, we went to a panel about socializing. It was what I looked forward to the most, aside from the dealers den, and I deeply regretted it. It was cringe overload and I walked out.

The weekend was fun. There were stressful moments but it was overall fun.
