So this weekend I got to experience my first furry convention, MegaPlex, in Orlando. So during this event I've learned a few very valuable lessons.
First lesson, make sure you book your hotel at the convention. I tried to book a villa at Caribe Royale, the hotel that was hosting the event, but unfortunately no villas were available. Instead of booking a regular room, because I wanted an oversized bathtub, I booked a villa at a different hotel not too far away.
This hotel was ghetto. Right off the bat I knew I fucked up when we were checking in and we were advised that during the duration of the stay that we would have to wear these yellow hospital-style brands on our wrists. I don't think I've ever stayed at a hotel where that was a thing and already while checking in I was regretting my decisions.
Then, the room itself was probably styled by Grandma Ethel in the 80's. I know we're on 192 in Kissimmee, so obviously I shouldn't have expected luxury, which I wasn't, but good god the room was gaudy and felt like a crime scene waiting to happen.
In all fairness our Villa was large. Very large. It was a three bedroom villa, and each room had its own bathroom. So it worked out perfectly for the four of us. David and I took the master room with the massive jacuzzi tub in the bedroom, and Ali and Dakota each had their own space. There was also a main kitchen and an additional front kitchen, but the front kitchen felt kinda like a sad employee break room than a hotel kitchen so everyone just used the main kitchen.
Saturday morning we got to the convention. First, of course, we had to make a "quick" stop at Starbucks on the way. This stop was for around 45 minutes and I deeply regretted not using the drive through to get through faster.
When we got to the convention we went inside and OH. My. GOD! Furries. Furries everywhere.
