Life is crazy right? 20 years ago I met this man, and this week we celebrated a score of loving each other.
We've had this planned for awhile. For whatever reason David had wanted to do Seattle for our 20 year anniversary. Out of all of the places we could travel too in celebration of our relationship, we chose Seattle, which makes the least sense but also in that respect made the most sense. Not much in our relationship has made a whole lot of sense. At some point we both genuinely forgot he was the older one, even though he had to buy me cigarettes when we first met because I wasn't old enough. We never bothered to remember our actual anniversary so I landed on this particular day using utter and complete guesstimation. We're such opposites and we're the same person. Seattle was a good middle ground–a place neither of us had been too, but both of us wanted to experience.
DAY ONE
So Monday morning, on our anniversary, we hopped on a plane and went across the country to Seattle.
It was a long flight, but we made it. We landed in Seattle around 5PM PST and took a Lyft from the airport to the hotel. We opted not to rent a car since everywhere we were planning on visiting was within walking distance.
First thing was first, we checked into our room and then went out straight to the nearest barber shop. Unfortunately for me everything in Seattle seems to close really early so it was a race against the clock. We walked up a sidewalk that had me internally crying. This thing may as well have been vertical. I got to the barbershop but they stated they'd cut my hair but didn't have time to trim my facial hair which I was a bit sad about, but was greatful they'd cut my hair at all considering they all looked ready to leave.
After the haircut we went to Target to get stuff for the hotel. The city was absolutely beautiful, but man! Oh man! I underestimated the walk we had to everything. Humping back bags full of bottled water and snacks was not fun.
After we got back to the hotel, we put our groceries up, took a shower, and then made sweet anniversary love with the curtains open and the night city lights pouring in on us. It was magical. We passed out in anticipation for our first full day in the city.
DAY TWO
We woke up early and head out to walk towards the Space Needle. We had a 10AM appointment there and after the walk to Target I didn't want to leave much to chance. I grabbed my coffee from the hotel and we started walking.
It didn't take us long at all to get there. Of course, we're tourists so we have to take the obligatory pictures underneath the Space Needle.
The needle was an awesome experience. I'd post the video of the elevator ride up but it appears Google has broken video posting on Blogger so I'll just say it was cool.
We get to the top and took a bunch of pictures and then headed downstairs to the lounge with the rotating floor. I'll be honest, it was scary to stand on the glass rotating floor, but exhilarating at the same time.
After we were done at the Space Needle it was time to head over to the aquarium which was our next scheduled plan.
We took the monorail from the Seattle Center to Downtown Seattle and walked down to the Public Market. The walk was amazing. We saw fantastic art, a person shooting up heroin on the sidewalk, and I got to stop at Beecher's for their famous World's Best Mac and Cheese. I don't know if I'd call it world's best, but I will say it definitely did NOT disappoint. It was amazing and worth every penny.
The aquarium was awesome. I'm not sure what we were expecting, but admittedly it wasn't that schools would be having field trips there this day. There were kids EVERYWHERE. We snapped quite a few good pictures at the aquarium.
After the aquarium we went back to the Public Market for lunch. We stopped at this Chinese place. At this point I was getting irritated at David. We were on vacation and this boy wasn't eating shit like he was trying to watch his calories. We're both very keen on good food, but he was being dainty and unsure about eating anything. I ended up strongarming him into getting something from the Chinese restaurant. It was amazing food, but I was dying of heat inside the small cramped space.
After lunch we decided to head up to Capitol Hill a.k.a. the gay area of Seattle. I was hoping to stop at a cute shop and get some sexy underwear...which I did. Almost $250 worth of sexy underwear. We then walked over to Dick's Drive-In Restaurant which had the cheapest food I had seen in Seattle this far. After grabbing a quick bite we walked over to Phoenix Comics and Games and paroozed the selection before walking back to the hotel to call it a night.
It was a lot of walking our first day there and we still had a whole other day of walking ahead of us.
I'm breaking this into a two parter to keep the posts from being miles long. The next day was chock full of fun.
