Today we went to Ormond Beach — a dog-friendly stretch of coastline — with my sister Olivia and her kids. It was exactly the kind of escape I’ve been craving.
Ever since the cold weather rolled in, I’ve felt cooped up, but today was finally warm enough to actually enjoy being outside again. It felt good to exist in our own skin for a few hours.
Naturally, we brought Jack. And he loved it. You probably wouldn’t know that from the photos, since his default expression is “someone behind me just whispered something inappropriate,” but trust me — he was thrilled. He sniffed every dog, every human, every molecule of ocean wind like it was his life’s calling. The beach was busy, but in a way that felt lively rather than stressful.
It was also our first little road trip in the new car, which made it even more fun. Just me, the husband, Jack, and a playlist full of absolute bangers on the drive there and back.
Sometimes you really do just need a beach day to unstick your brain.
